UP

A little piece of advice that I recieved when I first started taking photos was to always look at things from different angles.  Often when I take photos of the kids or the dog, I try to get on their level, and will even lie down to get a more interesting shot.

She looks like she is up high off the ground, but really, it is only a foot or so ;)

You often get interesting shots when you look up....waaaay up.

I loved this shot because of the blue blue sky.  A rare treat in these parts.

I was recently in Las Vegas.  I only took my small point and shoot, but I was able to get some interesting shots of the ceilings of the various hotels.

The ceiling at the Bellagio

The Wynn

The Palazzo (I think these were added because of Chinese New Year)

result...

Awhile ago I posted here a photo of some crayon wrappers.  Well....about 350 crayons later, with a bit of chopping, a silicone heart shaped mold, and the trusty very old oven, we got these:

Thank you to pinterest for the idea!

Winter

Even though we live in the great white north, we don't get much of the white stuff.  We did get a dump today, which was great for the kids.  There is still a hint of green around though!

crayon wrappers?

Renee and I spent some time today taking the wrappers of a tub of old crayons.  I'll post photos of what we are going to do with them (thanks Pinterest!) later....

Updating Facebook...and found this...

This was a photo I took of one of the most photogenic people I know.  I took this back in 2004, and at the time, the selective colouring was the "in" thing.  It isn't so much anymore, but I still love this shot.  This wedding was essentially planned and pulled off in one week, as there had been a screw up on the part of the organizers at the original location.  I volunteered to take some photos, as did many others - they didn't have a wedding photographer.  Still one of the best weddings I have attended.

simplify

I read this article this morning, and really liked the message.  Christmas holidays in our house have been a very lazy time, mostly filled with playing lego.  The chaos of school, life and "stuff" will begin in a few short days, so we savour the down time when we can.

Welcome to 2012

Welcome 2012 - a fresh new start, and a year that I hope is filled with joy and happiness.  I hope that I can capture many of those moments, as well as the chaos that seems to surround me daily.  I have have had an on again, off again relationship with my camera this year - sometimes I pulled it out because I felt that I had to capture a moment, and not necessarily because I was moved to mark the occasion.  My favorite photos are those that I have been inspired to take and often it happens when I least expect it.

I am by no means a professional, and I have much to learn.  I am inspired by many and I hope that one day I have the time to take some classes and learn from those who take truly great photos.
